My Name is Amanda. I am 16 years old. I have a premature child. He weighed 2 lbs 15oz. He had a lot of problems and I was wondering if there were any words of encouragement. Hi Tommy:I just wanted to tell you that I had a premature baby in december 2001 16 weeks premature weighing 1lb.2oz. She is now lying here beside my computer desk 5 months old weighing about ten pounds. She didn't have any of the common preemie complications for example hemorrhage, but she has had one laser surgery on her eyes. There is not a day that goes by that i don't thank God for letting my little girl make it down that long hard road. You are a very strong young man and you can do anything you ever want to do in life. God bless.

My son was also early and managed to beat the odds. Hard to believe what we went through but it has been ten years now. Eric is very small for his age but he has spinal deformities. He is perfectly healthy and thriving! Jane

Hi Tommy: I have an 18 month baby boy who is the surviving twin of a 28 week pregnancy. Cole was 2 pounds 11 ounces and Christopher was 1 pound 8 ounces. Cole is the survivor!! I am very encouraged by how well you are doing considering all the trauma you were face with as a new born. Way to go!! I would like your permission to use your name some of your pictures from your website to add to a March of Dimes presentation to my students. March of Dimes is an organization which helps save premature babies. I would like to use your pictures to show students how they can help save these babies and proof that suppprt of the March of Dimes does indeed help!! Let me know if using your pictures and your name is ok with you!! Thanks!! Angie

Hi Tommy:

Me and my wife are expecting our first baby. She is six months pregnant which means she is in her 26th gestational period. She broke her water bag two days ago which created a big crisis like situation for us. She was in the hospital when this happened and luckily she's getting the best medical treatment possible. I am sure you may understand our worries in this situation. Looking at the pictures of your son made me really encouraged. I am pretty hopeful that things will go in our favour. Your webpage has given me new hope and encouragement. I told my wife about which made her feel even more encouraged. We lost our first baby when she was in her 20th week last time. That one trauma is haunting both of us this time also. No matter what I do to make her feel comfortable, it all comes back to us. Anyway, I appreciate all your effort you made in building this webpage. I wish you all the best in your future life. Thanks again.

Hi Tommy:

I just finished reading your story with tears in my eyes. What a wonderfull boy you have grown into after all you went through!! We had a preemie baby almost just like you, not quite as small, on January 5th, 2002. He was born at 28 wks. following a placental abruption. Our Eric weighed 2 pounds, 14 ounces and was 15 1/2 inches long. His dad and I were so scared! He is now almost 3 months old and doing great. He went home on caffeine and a monitor, and he may be developing ROP in one eye, but other than that his outlook looks good. I hop you and your sister have a fun week off for Easter vacation. Do you get along good??? Well, thank you for sharing your story with me and other parents like me out there who need some inspiration for a positive outlook. ((((hugs))))) Judy Wilson and family

Hi Tommy:

hi! i was doing a search under "preemies" because i am doing my Jr. paper on the effects of premature births and this site came up, you have a beautiful baby boy and everytime i see one of those tiny little babies i always start crying, i dont know what i would do if my baby ever came out that tiny, i would be scared to hold her...i would be worried she would "break" seeing parents like you, parents that have made it through things like this, that have raised these amazing angels only shows me that not all people are all bad, and that there has to be a god up there helping us out... thank you for giving me someone to look up to, and for giving the world another wonderful child.

Hi Tommy, I found your website and thought I would drop you a line. You have come such a long way. Bless your heart! I delivered my third child, Ian on 12-7-00. He was a 33 weeker due to placenta abruption as well. He weighed 4lbs. 14 oz. and came home 10 days later. He was on a ventilator and CPAP also. Those were the scariest 10 days of our lives. He is a healthy, 15 month old little guy who is always on the go! He has a brother 7 and a sister 4 that keeps him entertained. He has another sister on the way in 5 weeks. I am so happy to see how well you are doing. You are very lucky! God bless you always. Rachel L. Lozon

Hi Tommy:

I was just looking at you wonderful array of pictures and realized that I could be looking at the same pictures of my son. He was born at 24 weeks and weighed 1lb 8oz just a bit smaller than you. He was in the NICU for just about 3 months. I hated all those big tubes that covered his face as sure your parents did also. My son was on the ventaltor for 6 weeks also. After numerous attempts on CPAP we were finally off. He was born on September 18, 2000 and got to go home right before christmas. I rember the fear of taking him home! It was all overwelming but after spending day and night at the NICU I Was a pro. The day we got to leave the hospital all the nurses who became like family cried right along with us. They informed me how lucky we were to have a baby to take home because there were coutnless nights where they didn,t think he would make. They were pretty good about keeping our spirits up and to take one day at a time. Since we have been home we luckly have not had to go back. He got of the oxygen at 5 months and has just gone from there. He is now 18 months and weighs about 20 lbs and is doing wonderful. He just started walking and is now into EVERYTHING!! But he has two older brothers to keep up with so nothing is gonna stop him. It looks like you are doing wonderful. I hope you keep your web sight updated because I would like to see the things we have to look forward too. Good luck in first grade!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME TO READ OUR JOURNEY AS WELL. Hi Tommy: My name is Barbra. I was born May 31, 1984 at St Mary's hospital in Duluth, MN. See my mommy had a problem with her cervics and they didn't know it till I was born 3 months early and weighed 1lbs 10 ounces. My mommy says I was suppose to be my daddy's surprise birthday present. Outside of not knowing if I was a boy or a girl I don't know how I could have been a surprise. I have two younger sisters how share the same birthday, but they are two years apart. My Mommy calls them her little twins. I am a merical baby because when I was born there wan't really alot they could do for preemies because they really didn't know a whole lot. My NICU nurse calls me her little mouse. My mommy and daddy like that name so much that every so offten they call me little mouse. My nurse got me thing on the lines of becoming a NICU nurse also because I love little kids, but I don't quite know yet because for a long time I wanted to be a 2nd grade teacher. I am now 17 almost 18 and am in the 11th grade. Believe me when you get older you charish all the memories you have had in live. My mommy and daddy keep telling me that if the unit gets another me in there they will go nuts because when I was there I was a bad baby. I would pull off my wires and so the alarms would sound and just about every five min. they would be running over to see what was wrong. Then finally they valcroed my arms down so I would stop pulling the wires off me. I hd a fit and was screeming my head off, but you couldn't hear me because I had a tube down my throat acording to my mommy and daddy. I am lucky though because all I have is a mild case of Cerable Palse or cp and a mild case of cervature of the spine. I can't think of the word for the life of me right now. I spent my first three months in the hospital and when I came home my mommy would get scared I wasn't breathing so when I was asleep she wouod come wake me up just to make sure I was okay. Well write me back and I hope to talk to you a little later but I got some homework and the I have girl scouts after that tonight.

Hi Tommy:

This is a great site and I just wanted to let anyone who has or is a premature baby know that they can make it and thrive. I was born three months premature and wasn't expected to live but I am nearly twenty years old now, graduated a few years ago as valedictorian of my high school, and am attending college. So, never give up hope!

Hi Tommy:

I have just read your web site in amazement. My son - James was born in August last year weighing 1 lb 12 oz (800 grams) dropped to 1lb 7 oz....... Both your stories are practically identical - even down to the fact the James came home just before Christmas ....on oxygen! The only difference was that he needed a douple hernia repair before he came home. He amazes me every day that he is here, but you forget the pain of nearly 4 months in hospital. I hope that he turns out as great as you!!!

Hi Tommy: My name is Lori and I am a NICU nurse. I am teaching other new NICU nurses about how to look after babies like you who have a long hospitalization. I would like to share with these nurses some ideas and perspectives on how the bedside nurse can help families cope with having to parent for a long time in the NICU (particularly with BPD). Thanks for any feedback.

Hi Tommy: One of the people my mom works with just had a preemie, born at 28 weeks he's 2 lbs. 9 oz. I was searching the web for information about preemies and i came accross this site. I have to say that you are a remarkable little boy, you've overcome alot of obstacles and your mom and dad must be very proud of you. Your story is inspirational. I'm only 14 years old, so I don't have any kids yet, but when i do have kids i only hope that they can be half as strong and brave as you've been. Goodbye Tommy!! Sincerely, Jessie

Hi Tommy: I loved reading your web page, It was nice to hear of a baby surviving. On January 8, 2002 I also had a baby boy at 24 weeks gestation. His name was Brian Joseph Reyenger Jr. He was 1 pound 10 ounces and 9.5 inches. He died on January 11,2002. He had a brain bleed rated a 4. I miss him so much. You are a very special little boy. They never did find out why I had a placent abruption and probably never will. Take care of yourself Kelly Reyenger

Dear Tommys Parents, I really don't know where to begin , We also have a son who was 2 1/2 months premature. His name is Kean James. He was 4 pounds at birth but quickly dropped the first night to 3 pounds . He is now almost 6 months old and 10 pounds. I guess I just really needed to read your stories in your web site, because I don't know if its just me but were are having a real hard time. We went through a lot just like you . I just cant seem to find the strength that you have, I love my son very much and I know I'm a good mom but I have 2 other kids and this is so much harder then when they were little. How do you get threw all the really hard times without wanting to just sit and cry? I had my son at Swedish medical center, and they weren't much help on info trust me. When does the pain you feel stop, when do I stop blaming myself for him being born to early, or do I ever? I still stay awake a lot just to watch him sleep for fear of sids , he has been threw so much I just want everything to be perfect for him. I know you can relate. I'm also afraid that my husband wont bond with him like I do, he had to go back home for the 2-1/2 months kean was in the hospital. My other 2 kids and myself lived in a motel 3mins away from the hospital and were there 24/7. I just have so many ?s . Maybe we can chat. Thanks Barb

Hi Tommy:

You are quite a handsome dude, your sister is pretty as a princess, and you have possibly one of the most wonderful families on the planet. What your parents have done for you is amazing. I'm glad I found your website...I was very moved by your story. It's one of the best sites I've ever encountered in the internet jungle. You are truly a blessing. To your parents: I had my baby girl just 6 weeks early due to placenta previa/accreta/preterm labor, and we got to take her home in just 21 days. It can't even compare to what you and your family went through, but I got a taste of purgatory, and am a changed person forever from it. I have several friends with preemie and micro-preemie experiences, one with triplets, and one who has had one in the NICU for 8 1/2 months, and will be until August 2002. She lives 90 miles from the hospital and can only see him on weekends, because she teaches school...very tragic. It is a hell-on-earth that cannot be understood unless it is experienced first-hand. I'm so happy for you that Tommy is so healthy and your website is spectacular! God bless you~ Warmest regards, Wendy

Hi Tommy:

I weighed 1060 grams at birth, fell to 1 lb. and something ounces, or under 2 lbs. and lived to tell the story. Had crossed eyes. I graduated from college and had a son who is grown. I JUST CELEBRATED MY 50TH BIRTHDAY and am finally happy in a job working with the elderly. Pretty good for a girl who was discriminated against...I got Phenobarbitol in the first 2 weeks! Hi Tommy:

It's so great to read about another preemie miracle. I was inspired by your story about 2 years ago after my own son, Keaton was born 11 weeks early. I like to think that when these little fighters come into the world they must think they have the best families around and just want to spend some extra time with us, little do they know what a commotion they've caused. Have a great life, you and your family deserve the best!!!

Hi Tommy:

I just wanted to drop by and tell you how much I enjoyed your website...My preemi Grandson Joshua Bailey Hartman was born on 10/21/01 and was due on 12/31/01 about 30 weeks...The site you and your dad have written has brought a lot of comfront to me.. Josh came home on 11/25/01.He is only on a heart monitor which has given at least 7 true alarms since he has been home for 4 days..I am very nervous but his mom and dad handle it very well..I was sick with broncitis and could not be at the nicu as often as I would have been therefore I do not know a lot that his parents know...I did take CPR and learn how the monitor works but still am very frightened when it occurs...He is such a sweet baby boy and really very smart..He can already roll from his back to his side and hold his head up..truley amasing since he is not even suppose to be here yet..I almost lost my only daughter and my grandson on 10/20 due to eclampsia (seizures and high blood presssure)..Even with her prenatal care it really upsets me that they did not find preclampsia only 5 days before his birth!!! I Thank God everyday that I have both my baby daughter 21yrs and my grandson (1mth).Thank you so much for sharing the things you did...If you want I have several pics of Joshua from day one till now and would love to share them...Take care little Thomas and remember (you go boy)!!!!!! Hi Tommy:

I like this website and started to cry .I have a premmie daughter and she was born at 24 weeks and weighed 1 lb and 6oz (680g) and was in NICU for 5 1/2 months and she had a lot of complications along the way .And I'm glad to have read stories about other families in the same situations. I'm glad to report that she is now 3 and is walking and getting ready to start preschool .

Hi Tommy:

you have very, very nice home page. Our preemie son was born 16 weeks too early, and had only 630 gram. On 11th of November he will be one year old. His NICU-story is very much like yours. We wish you the best for your future, you are a big miracle child, like our son!

Hi Tommy:

I really like all the messages I've read. My daughter born on Sep. 22 was born at 30 weeks. She weighted 3.5 pounds and now weighs over 5 pounds. I hope to get her home soon. She is not eating well and that is keeping her in the hospital. She poops out after about .5 ounce on the bottle. Any words of encouragement would be welcome. Rocio

Hi Tommy: Greetings to a preemie from a preemie. I am a 14 year old freshman and I was born on Nov. 8, 1986. I really don't remember how early I was, but I was pretty lucky. I weighed 3lbs. 10 1/2 oz. (A giant compared to you!!) Happy late birthday!!! Bye.

Hello Tommy, Congratulations! You are doing so well. I am the mother to a six year old preemie. Her name is Jaimie. She was born at 26 weeks and weighed 764 grams. That's about 1lb 11oz. She is also in grade 1 and is a beautiful, feisty red haired little girl. I am so proud of her and all of her accomplishments, as I am sure your parents are of you. Keep up the great work. Children like you and Jaimie are an inspiration to all the people whose lives you touch. Lisa

Hi Tommy:

I have signed this guestbook before a couple of times, but it has been a while. Our 2 and 1/2 year old son, Steven, was born at 30 weeks. He weighed 2lbs 6 oz and was 15 inches long. He now weighs around 25 lbs. We have had no major complications besides the normal preemie bradycardia and reflux, although when he first started eating solid food, he had a problem with hyper-sensitivity, and couldn't stand textures. We finally got over that hurdle with the help of occupational therapy and it has been smooth sailing ever since. Steven now has an 8 month old brother who was born full term and they adore each other. I am glad Tommy is doing well.

Hi Tommy:

Great to see you doing so well. My boy Brogan is 6 now and like you was born early (24 weeks). He too had 3 years of O2 at home. He was the same weight and length as you. He is full of life and has 4 older brothers. He finds writing and reading a bit of a challenge but boy can he talk!!! He is very little his doctors are worried about him not growing he's 102cm tall and 15kg. He loves playing with lego and enjoys camping. We just came back from a trip around Europe tenting for 10 weeks with his mum and Dad and 4 big brothers. We are thinking of American's at this difficult time. From Brogan

Hi Tommy:

Wow, tommy, your birth story is so close to our sons! Elijah Brady was our tenth child, and I too had many bleeding episodes during his pregnancy. though I have a history of abruptions, the problem with this pregnancy was that my water broke at 26 weeks. I had NO fluid, but remained pregnant for two more weeks! A major infection finally set off my labor, and Poor Elijah was born so septic, his eyes were even infected. He had pneumonia, a pulmonary bleed and his right lung was collapsed for weeks. Though he was 28 weeks and 2lbs 14oz, he was not expected to survive. In fact, his survival was questionable for two straight months due to his serious lung condition. He was intubated for THREE months!! Though severely oxygen deprived on several occasions Appropriately, he came home on Easter Sunday! Elijah is 7 months old now, and has been off of all oxygen and monitors for 3 weeks now. He is a LARGE and healthy guy, even though he has serious chronic kung disease. The doctors anticipated he would be back in the hospital within a week of going home.Praise the Lord, no such thing has happened, and he has been home 4 months.God is good, Tommy, and I believe babies like you and Elijah have a commision from the Lord. May your life remain a testimony to God's healing power. Kari

Hi Tommy:

Hello -- I first want to say that it is wonderful for me to read the messages. I am a NICU nurse (since 1977). I am the NICU nurse educator for a levelIII hospital just north of Baltimore, MD. I would like to request pictures (NICU days or current) that I could use as I teach new NICU and L&D nurses in the Baltimore --Washington,DC area. My objective is to share some of your thoughts about your premie so that maybe they will begin their careers with a better knowledge base. Above all, I would like to share some of your comments and photos so that they can help more parents. Please include good things, bad days and things that could have gone better. I also would like photos of NICU body scars and stories for lectures I give my seasoned NICU nurses. My E-mail address is karenwi@helix.org. thank-you very much

Hi Tommy:

I'm a mother of 2 children, the second being a prematured baby (31 weeks - 1Kg 880gms, height 47 cm). He was born on 9th August 2001, Thursday at 20:40 and was due on 20th October 2001. His name is Aroul Emmanuel. He is still in the NICU at Meaux. He was born in the Hospital of Montreil, Paris.

During my pregnancy I had problems of placenta being placed near the uterus and I had to stay in the hospital for nearly 2 months from 2nd June for total bed rest. I was discharged on 4th August since the placenta had risen to its normal position, but still I had to be very careful.

I was at home with my husband only for 2 days and all of a sudden on 6th August the amiotic liquid started leaking and I was immediately rushed to the hospital at Meaux(21:00). The whole night the nurses tried all their best to stop the contraction and the leakage of the liquid. Immediately one of the nurse injected me with a vaccination for the improvement of the lungs of the child in case if it was to be born then.

Luckily the pain reduced the next day at 5:00 and I was then taken to a special ward and had to stay there till the delivery of the child. I was not to get out of the bed since my position was very delicate. But this situation lasted only for 2 days. All of a sudden on 9th August morning at 7:00 the pain started again and measures were taken to reduce the pain, but in vain. They then rushed me to the Hospital of Montreil, Paris at 14:00 since that was the only hospital in Paris specially equipped for prematured babies. I reached there at 15:00 and the same measures were taken there as well to reduce the pain. But this time it was for real. I kept shouting in pain till the moment arrived. He was finally born.

Thanks to the vaccination given at Hospital of Meaux for the improvement of the lungs. That really helped Emmanuel. He had the respiratory tube only for 1 day and he was free on 11th August respiring normally and since he was out of danger or any other complications, he was transferred immediately to the hospital of Meaux. He really prooved himself to very fast and active from the very first of his birth.

He is in good condition now and we are still waiting for him to come home. Every day we receive a good news about him and that is what I pray for him. Today he weighs 2Kg 310gms. He is definitely a blessing from God and wish days could pass fast. Mira Delphine (Mother) Jayakumar VASANTE (Father)

Hi Tommy:

My Daughter Zoyie was born at 28 weeks on July 24 1998. Labor lasted all of 36 minutes. She was a beautiful screaming girl weighing in at 2lb 5oz and 14.5 inches long. (Also born on my mom and brothers birthday!) She had apgars of 8 and 9 and did not need to be vented. Her NICU stay was uneventful having only had occasional feeding intolerance. She could not handle my breast milk! I was able to kangeroo my baby the day she was born and that provided the bonding in which I will never forget! She came home on September 16, 1998 weighing 4lbs 1 oz. Today she is a beautiful active 3 year old that starts preschool on Aug 28. I was one of the lucky ones in that my Zoyie requires no special care and does not have any developmental delays or problems. God bless you all and you are all in my prayers...

Hi Tommy:

i think that it is really great that your son is doing so much better 7 weeks ago i delivered my daughter Hailey 5 weeks early she had to be on oxygen for 5 days, and it killed me inside to know that she was there. i was so scared that something would go wrong but she weighed 6 pounds 4 ounces and 19 inches long. i hope everything goes well with your child. i was wondering people tell me that premature babies tend to get more colds and sicknesses than a full term baby. did your son tommy have a lot of sicknesses?

Hi Tommy:

Our son Gregory Michael Edmonson was born 12 weeks early on May 26, 2001. He weighed 2 pounds 3 ounces and actually delivered in the car - we had less than 30 minutes warning that he was coming early! We spent 50 days in the hospital and had every imaginable procedure - 3 spinal taps, 2 blood transfusions, an echocardiogram, 2 head ultrasounds, countless xrays looking for NEC, lung development, etc. What a wild ride. We are home now - he came home at 3 pounds 7 ounces and now weighs about 4 pounds 5 ounces. We are so tremendously blessed. If there is anything I can do to help other preemie parents, please let me know. It's great to know that there are others out there who can share this type of experience. THanks!! Stacey Edmonson

Hi Tommy:this is a great site, and very encouraging. We have a 13 week old (42 weeks gestation) preemie, Jade, who is still in the NICU. We are finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. We should be bringing her home soon. When I have more time I will look at your sister's website. Your dad has done a great job on your site. Maybe I can get my husband to do something similar. He has a page for our 2 yr old, and we have been kind of busy lately, so he hasn't updated it as often as we would like. Well, I didn't intend to write this much. Hi Tommy:

My daughter, Alexandria Marie, turned one year old this week. She was born last summer at 25 weeks gestation, weighing one pound, 10 ounces. She stayed in the NICU for 77 days. She was diagnosed early with a small Grade IV IVH on one side of her brain. I worried and worried and worried (as any preemie parents can imagine). They told us she had a 90% chance of having a serious neurological deficit. Today she is one. She crawls, pulls to a stand, is very close to walking, jabbers, laughs, and is easily the most beautiful creature I have ever seen. She is healthy and happy and very nearly like a normal one year old! (amazing considering her adjusted age of 9 months). To new preemie parents reading this... don't despair, keep the faith, keep praying and hoping and believing. Alexandria is proof that odds can be overcome. God bless you!

Hi Tommy, My name's Sarah and I'm 15 yrs old. I was looking up information for an Assignment when I stumbled upon your website. My assignment is on 'Pregnancy and the Neonate', and aspects that effect them. I decided to do Prematurity considering I was a Premature baby myself. I was born 11 weeks early, (so at 7 months and one week), and weighed 2 pounds 12 ounces. My I.D tag had to be fit around my ankle yet still slipped off, I had yellow skin, had to be fed through a tube and was on oxygen during my time in hospital. All things I'm sure you and your family are familiar with! The reason for my prematurity was that my mother was infertile, and had two wombs. Luckily I was born from the larger of the two otherwise I, like my mother's almost second child, would of been miscarriage. I was born via cesarean, and find it quite refreshing to find someone experiencing what I, and my parents had been through. I know that your mummy and daddy are so proud of you, and congratulations mum and dad for your courage during little Tommy's birth.

Hi Tommy:

You are quite an amazing boy! I'm a new mommy to a preemie daughter who weighed almost the same as you when she was born. You are lucky to have such a great Mommy and Daddy who have helped to make other mommies and daddies of preemies feel encouraged through your special website. (Besides that, they made you a "famous boy" too!) I loved your Kindergarten pictures....I'm a Kindergarten teacher here in NC, and I know how great the first day of school can be! I hope you've had a super year in Kindergarten!

Congratulations on how far you've come in the last 6 years...I know you will continue to be a "star"! Sincerely, Christy Blash

Hi Tommy:

I came across your website as I was looking for information for my son, Nathaniel, who was also a premature baby. I was very touched at your story as told by your mommy and daddy. You are truly a special boy, who has been tremendously blessed. My son, Nathaniel, was born at 28 weeks gestation, and also had a long stay in the NICU; 2 months. He also was on the ventilator and required blood transfusions, in addtion to a few surgeries (hernia repair, ROP and Hypospadius). Nathaniel is a very healthy boy and is now 1 1/2 years old. We documented a lot of his hospital course by video, photographs and journal entries, and will someday share these with him so he can know just what a special boy he is and how blessed he is as well. I hope your parents continue with the website as I would like to share it with Nathaniel when he gets a little older. I want him to see how special premie babies are, and how they grow up to be even more special everyday. Keep up the good work and have fun in school.// Nathaniel's Mommy & Daddy; Richard and Liz Silva. Liz

Hi Tommy:

I am comforted by your wonderful story. My first nephew was born last night. He is nearly 10 weeks early and weighs only 1lb. 9 oz. He is a beautiful baby, but very small. He is breathing on his own and even sucking, but his size really has me worried. Your story is very encouraging. Thank you for sharing it. May God bless you and your family.

Hi Tommy:

I am glad that things are going well with your family. Your story gives us much encouragement, as we are now facing a similar situation. Our twin boys were born between 24-25 weeks, on January 15th, 2001. We found most information to be disheartening but stories like yours, with positive outcomes, give us much hope. Our sons have just made it through the honeymoon period and have now encountered their first infection as you described. One of our sons has a grade 1-2 bleed and the other is showing no evident signs. We are concerned that the bleed may have some lasting effect, in your case is seems to have resolved withuot complication. This is wonderful news!!!! Thanks for the encouragement. Hi Tommy:

Our e-mail has been down, and I haven't received replies from my 1/13/01 message. I can receive them through the address given. I asked if babies born in the 25wk, 1#10oz range were ventilated at birth,(or shortly thereafter) and treated with surfacant to minimize RDS and brain hemmorages. We've done alot of reading, but are in the dark about the best care.

Hi Tommy:

It was great to read your story. I, am a neonatal intensive care nurse and I see patients just like you on a daily basis. I am thrilled to see that you are doing so well and that the strides that Neonatalogy has made have paid off. I wish you much luck in your life and cant wait to see more pictures of you as you grow up. I am putting together a homepage and making a special page as a Dedication to the type babies I take care of.... would love to link your page with mine if that is ok. please let me know. Thanks Darlene

Hi Tommy:

You're so grown up now! My little girl was almost as little as you, weighing 1 lb. 11 oz. and 13" at birth in 1994 too. God keeps amazing us every single day with you tiny little miracles. Your mom and dad did a wonderful job in making this site for you and your sister (who is absolutely adorable too!) I hope you're doing well in kindergarten and loving your new teacher and friends! Like you, my Kaitlyn is quite a "normal" 6-year-old and we're so proud of her for fighting all those days in the NICU! Her mommy and daddy are wanting another baby soon, but having a hard time dealing with what it might be like to have another premature baby. God will make that decision when the time's right. Great to hear of your success story. I'm confident your web page is helping a lot of new mommy and daddy's with the same kind of thing you went through...God Bless you, Tommy! YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL!! :-)

Hi Tommy:

It's surreal how your story parallels that of my son Oren, born 6 months before you at 26 weeks, also due to an abruption. Oren arrived about an hour after we had any indication of something amiss, had the same kinds of setbacks and arrived home around the time you were born (but with less equipment). He's a terrific first-grader. Your dad has captured well the experiences of the NICU

. I haven't yet checked our your resources, but there is a terrific new book out called "Preemies" by 2 moms who met in the NICU and the sister of one of them who happens to be a neonatologist.

Hi there Tommy! Congratulations on losing your teeth! I hope the Tooth Fairy brings you some goodies under your pillow! Have a good day, and learn some new things in school!

To Tommy's proud parents...You are truly blessed, to have Tommy with you today. He is definately an angel sent from above. I am very happy that everything worked out and Tommy is a healthy, normal little boy. My daughter was also premature, but only about 2 weeks. I thought she was small! God bless you all, and take care of yourselves.

Hi Tommy:

My son Mathew was born at 27 weeks and weighed 2lbs. 9oz.He had to spent 6 weeks in the hospital. He progressed very well. He is now 2years old. Mathew is doing great and cant really tell he was premature. Your story brought back a lot of memories for me. I'm glad to know that everything turned out great for you and your family. Its also great to know that you have a very loving father that was there for you when you were born. You are blessed. They say GOD doesn't give people more than they can handle so you must have a very strong family. Thank you for sharing your story with us. Richard & Melani Morrison

Hi Tommy:

WHO else is a preemie survivor in their 50s?I was -2LBS. FRANCE is where I should have been born full term and full weight. I'm waitin' for my overdue French citizenship, which has been illegally kept away from me my entire life [a longer story]. HELP! some of us adult PREEMIES have ouches: NYC is too noisy, rude, crude, ugly ,too much Spanish language, too many harsh voices, too many nasty people in the Arch/Diocese of NY; colours, stripes, lights hurt me. Copenhagen, DK was not such a "sensory bombardment", "sensory overload". Does anyone else have an almost photographic memory for some rooms; esp where traumatised. DON'T TRUST much of the social work, the E.C.T. , NYU hospital, C.U.C.S., many Episcopalians I won't name here; Dwelling Place; Missionaries of Charity's shelter on 126th St.; Visiting Nurses; "Cousin Bobby". Don't settle for less than the BEST y'all can become. Don't trust much of traditional medicine.
